I have a widescreen Tv (Sharp 76gf-63h) and a set top box (philips dtr1500). I have been using it fine for a long time. However on BBC2 when the World Championship Athletics are on the picture is in 4:3 mode. Normally if I get a programme that doesn't fit the screen I just need to use the temp. adjust button to go either:
auto
panorama
ful
normal
zoom
cinema
however nothing works. If I watch the same programme not via digital box the picture is fine.
Where am I go wrong or is it the programme?
thanks

These pictures come from Helsinki and they are intended for all the world hence 4:3. Have you tried toggling through your set top box display width options for each of your wide screen TV options.
I assume the problem is an unwanted border.

Did a toggle on my options the only one that gives me full picture on this prog. is setting it to 4:3 but that changes it for all channels.
Funny why its only on this one prog. as other foreign sports broadcasts are fine.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I'm not sure if this is the case here but have a careful look at the picture and you may find that the BBC are transmitting a 16*9 frame with the 4*3 Helsinki picture within it.
So the freeview box sets itself to 16*9 and you see the vertical borders. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
