Hi
I tried to turn off my gas fire and the knob broke and have been unable to turn the fire off for an hour!! - (have tried pliers)
tried a few local suppliers for a replacement knob which they havn't got but in the meantime i have turned off the gas at the mains.
How do i isolate just the fire as i need gas to cook my dinner!! Is this a DIY job as i plan to get an engineer to install a new fire next month or do i need an engineer now to isolate the fire so i can use the gas for radiators etc???
BTW - the fire is an old style (with the grill at the front) Glow-worm Galaxie 246N if that means anything!!!
Cheers

If it's been fitted correctly, should be some form of shut-off valve between the fire and where the gas pipe goes into the floor. Sometimes it an obvious tap, otherwise a right-angled joint with a slotted cover (you unscrew the slotted cover anti-clockwise and beneath this will be a screw - turn clockwise to close off the valve).
If theres no shut-off valve, you're best leaving it off at the mains until the plumber turns up, sorry.0 -
i have located the cut off valve but this also cuts off the back boiler - can we not have the back boiler working independently from the fire??

Just turn the valve half way this will leave the boiler on but turn the supply to the fire off! :beer:AAAAndy0

Hi,
Last post was a little misleading, when boiler cuts off gas will flow to fire.
There may be a thermal cut-out on fire, which means that if no flame no gas.
But I would not take any risks whatsoever with gas.
