Car Insurance Cancellation Fee
ABN
Needed insurance for myself and wife, I’m effectively retired but my wife works and needs the car for work.
Checked for the cheapest quote and that came from Churchill but checking their details on line it stated that business cover is not included if your retired. So phone up to check whether the wife would be covered for business use even if the policy was in my name. I was assured that if her work did not fall into one of the excluded categories she would be covered.
Just checked the policy details and it says it only covers social, domestic and pleasure so seems I may have to cancel the policy. But I noticed that they have a £50 cancellation rate.
Will be phoning them tomorrow, they are closed today. If indeed I do need to cancel does anyone know where I stand with regard to the cancellation fee and how should I approach this.
Thanks

SDP can include commuting and some types of business travel. I suggest you get it confirmed in writing.

The cancellation charge has had complaints to the FOS and they have ruled it ok upto £50 (they may allow more but their publications show that complaints about the fee upto £50 have been rejected).
If they have a log of the phone call confirming they said business was covered and it transpires it isnt then you would expect the policy to be voided with no fee charged as it was their error.
