BT Basic Connection Problems

Options
I lose connection every day sometimes when online and sometimes when not online. I have to shut down and switch on again to reconnect. I have had this problem every since December when I started Broadband. I use Mozilla Firefox, are there any settings I should check? Cannot speak to BT Technical as this is a Premium Number and I have them barred due to a huge telephone bill last year when International calls accessed my dial-up. Freephone number will not put me through!
Any not too technical advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

ADSL can be quite tricky at times.

Do you use a router or USB modem? Do you have ADSL filters installed? If so how many? Do you run any cheap/old telephones in the house? Do you run any telephone extension cables?

Pick up the phone and dial 4, so it goes quiet. Do you hear any crackling/pops on the line? Try this with all the phones.

Also, look here for a alternative BT phone number to ring. http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

Thank you to all who replied.
Thanks to Toxteth I have spoken to BT via the 0800 repair line and they have suggested various optionsto try such as moving computer to main phone point and removing one of the two filters. I can call them again if this does not work.
    My thanks to you all.

I had a similar problem when I was with BT - do you have their answering service? Apparently this 'checks' the system every now and then, and when doing so can disrupt the line enough to lose your broadband connection.

It can also happen with some 'external' caller display units, i.e. a separate box near you phone.

I found this out from a website devoted to everything bad about BT, but can't remember what it was called...
