I don't need the lids to tell me. I know some of mine are at least 15 years old

nice marketing ploy to get people to update their containers with newer ones.

Not quite as clever as the dyson one though that has me convinced that if I ever buy another non dyson vaccum my carpet will never be clean again :(

guilty - but I figure if they're that old it's because I haven't used them so I'm not likely to use them in the future - so they may as well sit there. If I throw them away there wll be gaps on the rack:o

However... My little sister is now the proud owner of my old spice rack and old spices ....

Ohhhh... Just got a mental image of the Old Spice wave then :o:o

Linky for all to have same image ;):p

They don't go off (unless they get damp.) But they do lose their flavour quite a lot.

I noticed recently that Schwartz had changed the colours of their jars. I think they have changed them to Green - herbs, Brown - spices and Purple for garlic and a few other ones that I can't remember.

I have a mix of old and new as I just refill the ones I had but have a few of the new ones because I have tried new recipes that needed some herbs and spices that I didn't already have. I'll just refill these with cheaper packs when they need it.

Think it's not the colour but the flat lids they are on about - new ones have a rounded lid.

I'm still using cinammon from a jar from my childhood.... tastes lovely on my homemade frothy coffee!!

Yep, we have several of the "old" ones here, but like most folks we refill so no idea how old they are really. As GR says, the flavour does go off, but then you just need a pinch more! I'm sure some of our spice jars came from the rack we bought in our previous house - and we've been here since 1983! I think it's just a ploy to try to persuade us all to buy new...and it's clearly not working!
