wall hung tolilets

I'm replacing the bathroom and including the toilet in my BTL flat. the problem is that I think a wall hung one would be better, but the frames with the built in cisterns are (a) to large (b) too deep as I have a window in the corner that mounts straight onto the toilet wall, so a small frame with no cistern would be fine, but all I see are frames with cisterns in it and are too deep/high thus will prevent the window from opening.

I was hoping to put the tank in the boxed in pipe work before anybody asks. The existing set up is a boxed in tank just below the bottom of the window and tha tis 94cm to the floor. It works, but the pressure is not great.

How do you hand a wall hung toilet with out a bracket? Should you hand a wall hung toilet without a bracket? Any ideas/hits welcome!

I looked into this a few months ago, and basically the answer is, don't do it. You NEED to have a frame as it has to support a lot of weight. You could possibly make your own timber frame, but I wouldn't trust it personally. I'd just go with a normal back to wall pan, just in a nice new style, a lot easier, plus you can adjust the cistern height, as you like, to fit into smaller gaps than the frame... try http://www.bes.co.uk/ and search for item 17580, that what we used, cheap and works well, push button is nice too;)

Not a plumber myself, so am not able to give you professional advice regarding this. But we are going to install wall hung toilet soon, so have been doing research on it.

From what I read so far, you need to install wall hung toilet onto a frame as 1) the frame will take the weight of it and 2) it will stabalise the toilet which is very important because even slight movement will mess up the pipe connection which may leads to leakage.

As for the cistern, I remember reading something about you can have the cistern installed on an adjacent wall (i.e not directly above the toilet itself) as apparently the flush button actually works on air.

Sorry forgot where I read that, you may be able to google it.

Is it worth it in a BTL flat? Glam accessories on a cheap whihte suite will give you a good effect. We only put basic, clean line toilets in and then spend the money on pretty showers/baths for resale. For BTL I'd choose a plain white suite, modern taps and some nice tiles. Clean and modern is what you need to provide to get a tenant in quickly - you have to look at some of the dross that is out there to really appreciate how nice your place will obviously be!

You can only command a certain rent for a property - minimum outlay for maximum gain :o

To be fair I did not want to go for a wall hung one as it not about image/looks, however there is another flat above me and their pipes run through my flat too. I am really into easy access and removable panels to get to the pipes, rather than ripping a bathroom to pieces. If I have a pedestal based basin/toilet then they can't get to the piping behind the paneling :(

Wall hung ones on ebay are not much more that the normal ones.

I rent out 4 rooms in a maisonette, so it has to be functional, and the flooring is easier to clean too if there is nothing on it. I admit I an a bit worried about some idiot breaking it though.

is this push button movable/detachable?=, as on the photo it looks like it is mounted. Also it states it comes with a 800mm cable - what for, surely the flush is air operated?

The push button is mountable where ever you like, its air operated so as long as you are within 700-800mm of the cistern it can go where ever. Its not a cable, more a tube and the button is in polished chrome colour (albeit made of plastic). I'll try and take some pics of ours tonight if I remember!

Wall hung ones are indeed about the same price, if not cheaper than normal toilets, BUT you have to remember to add on a cistern and frame, which, when I was pricing it all up, seemed to add at least £60-70 to the total if not more.

    Hi Adaze,

The price of the concealed cistern is very good indeed. Where did you buy the frame for the concealed cistern?

    Thanks!

Malamala, the original post was for a wall hung toilet which a cistern is mounted on/in top half of a metal frame and the pan screw into the bottom half of the frame. ebay them and you'll see.

Some cisterns you can screw into the wall, or put on a shelf, or place on 90degree brackets, the weight is only about 7kg when full.

Due to space their, the cost of bracket, and still having to leave a gap on the back so bought a 'back to wall, floor standing' one from ebay with wall hung basin so access can be gained to the pipes and the frame should not get in the way of the waste pipe, so should be closer to the wall - hopefully.

    Thanks for your help Adaze.

Thanks Bookduck. Just realised Adaze did not go with the wall hung solution in the end.

We are going to buy a wall hung toilet with cistern and frame on Ebay, but have not decided whether to buy from seller Bathxxxxxx75 or Empxxxxxxth.

I understand a good, reliable cistern is important, so we might pay more to buy a better quality cistern+frame and just buy the wall hung toilet from either of the two Ebay sellers mentioned above.
