being an analogue dvd recorder means it doesnt have a built in freeview tuner. so if you dont have sky or cable after the analogue signal gets turned off you wont be able to record any tv programme on it. even then you wont be able to record one channel and watch another. so if you want to record programmes from one channel while watching another i suggest you either get a digital dvd recorder with built in freeview or get sky+ and just use the analogue dvd recorder for recording stuff you want to keep.

This one has. It's the Samsung PS42Q97HDX. It's the same price as the one you're going for, but has free delivery, and I think it's a better model.

If you want to go througn Dixons though, for the one you mentioned, try putting AW20 discount code, to get £20 off.

Jackie , Thanks for taking the time to post the above model. It is def a superior model. I checked out the site and it says free delivery, but i live in Northern Ireland. Do you think the surcharge would still only be £4.95. There was so much delivery info for weights etc on the site I got confused.
I really want to get something ordered, also need a stand for this but lots of the stands look really big, or they dont delivery to NI.
Just need to get sorted with a dvd Recorder, would i be able to get a Analogue one if i had freeview on the TV???
    sorry for being so dumb.....

Their chat service is closed (probably due to holday weekend), but why not e-mail them or wait until Tuesday, and ask about the postage. I agree it does look a bit confusing lol.

This website does free delivery for stands to all of the UK, including Ireland. http://www.standland.co.uk/

I found this about dvd recorders. I hope someone more techie minded can come along and help you more. http://www.frequencycast.co.uk/dvdrecorders.html

[Choice 1: A DVD Recorder with an analogue receiver: This will be able to record analogue TV (the main 5 channels) via a TV aerial UNTIL your TV region "goes digital" (somewhere between 2008 and 2012 - see timetable). It can also record from an old video recorder connected by SCART, as well as a digital set-top box (e.g. a Freeview set-top box, a Sky Digital Box, a Virgin Media box or a BT Vision v-box) - Connections via SCART are not affected by the Digital Switchover. Warning: After the switchover, these will only be able to record TV from the output of a Digital TV receiver, so think carefully!

Choice 2: A DVD Recorder with a digital receiver: Freeview offers Digital TV via a TV aerial. At the start of 2008, around 75% of the UK is in range of a Freeview transmitter, and this will increase as we get closer to 2012. If you're in a Freeview coverage area and can get Freeview, then go for a DVD recorder with a digital TV receiver built-in. Look for the logo on the right. This will be able to record the Freeview channels (including the main 5 channels) via a TV aerial. It can also record from an old video recorder connected by SCART, as well as a digital set-top box (e.g. a Freeview set-top box, a Sky Digital Box, a Virgin Media box or a BT Vision v-box). We say: Will work with all digital TV services, and will be able to record TV via an aerial now (if in Freeview coverage) and after the Switchover.

Had almost ordered this tv from the Bt shop online, really good price but just reading their terms etc> it says any item that turns out to be faulty after 28 days you have to take it up with the manufacturer,?? would you not get a 12 month warranty. and if you have to return the item if it is faulty you have to pay the postage yourself. this is putting me off abit. NB we dont have a BT shop in Northern Ireland any more.what do you think ?

I got this off the BT site.
Goods Reported Faulty More Than 28 Days After Receipt
If you are reporting faulty goods more than 28 days after receipt, then we strongly recommend that you contact the manufacturer direct for a warranty repair. This is often the quickest way to have a fault repaired. For example in some cases, manufacturers provide a special full on-site service and/or telephone help facilities for your convenience.
Alternatively, you can contact us direct if the goods do not conform to the contract.

I'm not sure if this is any different from any other online retailer? For example, I have a 5yr guarantee on my Panasonic TV, so i'd assume i'd have to contact Panasonic if anything went wrong. And if it has to be sent away, won't the manufacturers arrange for it to be picked up? I know when my Dyson and my Dell monitor broke, both were picked up from my house, at no cost to me. BT do say you can contact them though.

I'm only surmising though. Maybe, someone else can tell you otherwise. :)
