hi can some one tell me can you record sky/cable on a hard drive recorder

well i have a hard drive recorder with freeview and it only records freeview or the usual channels. im not very techie minded but asked about and it is not possible to record sky even though the hd recorder sits beside the sky box. had i known this before i bought it i wouldnt have lol

1. Scart from sky box to avi1/avi2 on hdd recorder
2. From the arial socket tune in to the skybox.
Both work for me.0
