changing from Sky to Freeview - what can I use

Options
We are changing from Sky to freeview.

1. We had Sky plus - can we use the Sky plus box to record freeview programmes?

2. Can we use the satellite to get freeview channels?

Sorry, don't know anything about Sky plus but when we finished our Sky subscription we purchased the Sky Freesat card for £20 and you get all the free to air channels through your Sky box. They are very slightly different from Freeview, e.g. on Freeview you get E4 and More 4 but not on Sky, but mostly the same.

You can't use Sky Plus to record non-Sky channels. But you could use it to record things on Sky Freesat.

If Sky Plus is important to you, I think that's the way you need to go but you won't get exactly the same channels as Freeview.

Yes I believe so, at least some channels, I think you need a special card from them

If you get a new freeview box get a pvr like sky plus. I recommend Humax 9200 they are the brilliant

When you cancel Sky, you will still have access to all free to air channels. There are a few channels available on Sky not on freeview and a few on freeview not on Sky.

You need to pay Sky £10 a month if you want to retain Sky+ recording facilities.

When you cancel Sky your viewing card becomes a FTV (FreesatFromSky) card, so no need to pay £20 for the card as your viewing card will turn into it.

If you cancel the subscription you will no longer be able to record on the Sky+ without subscription the Sky+ recording function is £10 per month.

Freeview is through the TV aerial and not satellite.

You maybe thinking of Freesat which is through your satellite receiver. There are around 200 TV channels and radio stations that are free on satellite you will receive those.

Some channels free on Freeview are subscription on satellite.

It would be best to have both Freesat and Freeview.

You can buy a Freeview PVR that is like Sky+ but for Freeview.

BBC/ITV will shortly be offering Freesat where you can get a satellite receiver like a Sky+ for just the free channels and not have to pay for the recording function, as you already have the dish just a case of swapping over the boxes when they become available. Though there will be a few free channels you'll not be able to pick up due to them requiring a Sky box and viewing card (Ch4, Five, Five US, Five Life, Sky Three & +1 versions of these - though Ch4 will sometime this year switch from FTV to FTA).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

You do not get all the free to air channels some like sky sports news and more you do not get if you google there are plenty of sites that tell you what channels you get I left sky last Aug after being with them from the start have not missed them one little bit, I watch more footy matches on the net than I ever did with sky and all free.

You could get a Humax PVR aht allows recording of 2 channels at once just like Sky+ - under £150. Or add the Phantom+ (£30) to your old Sky box http://www.bluedelta.co.uk/phantom+.html that turns it into a Sat PVR but only 1 channel recording at a time,
