It is possible we are bot affected by the same general type of system bug, can we compare notes?

    1. If you dial 1571 from the home phone do you hear "This Line doesn't have a call answering service"?

    2. If you make a test call to your home line from mobile and do not answer it, listening on the mobile, does the voicemail cut in every time? If so what is the wording of the announcement?

For 1. "Welcome to the voice mail retrieval service, you have no messages, thank you for using this service, please hang up".

For 2. "Welcome to voice mail, the person you have called is unavailable, please leave a message after the tone, thank you, your message has been recorded, please hang up"

This service cuts in after /on seventh ring!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!

The 1571 test clearly shows that you have Call Minder - have you logged into your BT acct and double checked that this feature is not on your list? I think I have something a bit similar going on but my on-line acct shows it is not a feature I have ordered and dialling 1571 in my case clearly states I do not have Call Minder.

We have BT as the local loop provider and TalkTalk for call billing. Ever since cancelling the BT 1571 service 9 months ago, after exactly 5 incoming rings a network message cuts in saying "Sorry, you can't leave a message at the moment" followed by 3 short beeps then silence. This happens even with the master house socket unplugged & test plate exposed. Dialling 1571 give the message that "This Line doesn't have a call answering service". BT have been unable to fix it despite several requests and a lot of faffing including sending a man around and charging £100 + VAT for doing nothing. This has forced us to set the answering machine to 4 rings in order for it to work! I am considering handing the local loop to Carphone WH, would probably already have done so if it were not for the 18 month tie-in & the fact that Virgin Media cable internet is pretty good & cheap currently.

Lord_Gardener, do you get exactly the same effect I described above?

Hi buglawton, I get exactly the same message as you do when using my BT voicemail service which is built into my BT Freestyle 7150 phone set (i.e. not 1571 voicemail service). If I set my phone to ring 2 or 4 times before the voicemail service kicks in the voicemail works fine (i.e. the caller can leave a message) but if I set the answer delay to 6 or 8 rings before voicemail the message which the caller hears is, "Sorry, you can't leave a message at the moment" and it then disconnects.

Did you get to the bottom of your issue as it is driving me mental - any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Once BT have refunded me the £117.5 they took previously (without informing me) - and they have now promised to do this - I am going to restart the fault complaint. Each time (twice already) I have had to start from scratch to convince BT that the fault is not in my own home. It is quite exhausting having to chase this continually and I have been talking to Carphone Warehouse sales reps about having my local loop taken over by them, I assume this might sort it finally.

    Will keep this thread posted!

BT have now fixed it, they took the complaint I registered seriously and it's done.

Any idea how they fixed it (I've got the same problem so it'd be good to be able to tell them what they need to do to resolve it for me!)

    Thanks.

    HI, Lord_Gardener,
I've recently come across exactly the same problem as yours. I was with TalkTalk for a few years then recently "returned" to BT when their sales people called. I have not subscribed any additional services they offer, and the record shows so. I didn't realise that phone calls were taken over by this annoying "voicemail retrieval service" until one day I heard this intermitten sound when I picked up the phone to make calls. There were 10 messages there, so I was alarmed. Some calls do go through to my own answering machine, but it seems to be a hit and miss. BT denies it's their doing, but this only started when I "returned" to them. How was your problem solved? Would you mind sharing it with me? Many thanks.

With me BT did not say how they fixed it.
