in Credit cards
Hi
My son will be travel out to Australia in July and wanted a credit card to take with him for paying small deposits on hostels on the net as it is far cheaper and that way he is guaranteed a room. But he has tried applying for credit cards, debit cards even with his own bank but nothing all he has is a cash card for the cash mine with his money in it. He has explained to me that i could add him to my husbands and mine capital one credit card which is the credit building one. is this possible and i do trust him and he promises to send me the money for the deposits of the hostels via Internet banking every month. any help would be great.
Thanks
Elaine

I suggest he get a CashPlus prepaid MasterCard. This will allows him to pay for goods abroad.
Have a look at this website: http://www.sofitel.com/sofitel/fichehotel/gb/sof/6640/fiche_hotel.shtml
P.S. You can also ask one of your current credit card issuer to give your son an additional card0 -

I think he will, if he have some money in the bank account at home. Some of those cards can be topped up by BACS transfer.
However if you could get him an additional card, that would be better as it has no fees.0 -

hi, can he not try capital one himself? he may be able to get his own with them. if not the only other thing i would suggest is if he didn't already have one, open a nationwide flex account, then nearer the time he could see if they will upgrade it to enable him to take advantage of free withdrawals and the ability to pay via card.0 -
For international travel, Nationwide flex account and credit card and the Post Office credit card offer the best deals. If you trust him, apply for these yourself and put him on as an additional card-holder.
He would probably be accepted for a 'sub-prime' card like Vanquis. This would do the job he needs it to do (albeit perhaps with a few fees). The interest rate is horrendous, but so long as he took great care to pay it off in full each month, that would not matter.
And a final thought: one person travelling alone can always get a bed in a hostel. And those hostel-booking sites do charge fees, which would add up in the course of a long trip. Why pay extra to sacrifice flexibility?0
