Lost Files

I have lost about 20GB of files from a file transfer between my computer and an external hard-drive! Ironically after creating partitions on the HDD (but I am positive this had nothhing to do with the loss).
I left the computer over-night to finish transfering the files, went back the morning after to find the computer had crashed (bearing in mind i use Vista) after my brother and his dim-witted friend decided to play on it, well attempt to. Meaning I had to force a shut-down!!
Is there any way of finding these files? As they must be stuck in a computer version of limbo.

you can download the trial version from http://www.recovermyfiles.com to see if they're there. It only costs about £30 for the software and is pretty good.0

You could try one of these free file recovery programs.
