Hiya,
My mum is due to reach 60 soon and will be claiming her state retirement pension. She also has a superann pension. Thing is, this means she won't get pension credits. Currently she gets income support and therefore housing benefit and the max reduction in her council tax.
Does anyone know how housing benefit and council tax benefit are calculated? I need to know if she will still get these and at what level. She says she will be better off on her state pension, but that's before calculating any rent or increase in council tax.
I tried the benefits calculator on-line but it says she will get pension credits, which she has been told she definately won't get due to the superann.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
If your mums total income is less than £ 125 per week ( after April 08 ) she will get maximum HB and CTB.
If the income exeeds this then her HB and CTB will reduce and she will have to pay 65% of her " excess" income towards her rent and 20% of her excess income to council tax.
