Somewhere on the net recently I've seen a light wood (beech?) storage unit on castors, quite narrow and with 4 or 5 baskets which pulled out from the side. I meant to keep track of it in case I should find a little floor space left in my kitchen  but have lost the link. If anyone's seen anything like this I've be grateful for a link please?... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

My kitchen is similar size to yours Gingham. Washing machine and cupboards in the same place. I can only have an under worktop fridge in there, and the chest freezer is in the dining room. I've got nowhere to put dirty washing, so it ends up sitting in a pile on the worktop until it's ready to go in the washing machine. I've got no shed to store anything, so paint/tools are crammed in one of the bottom kitchen cupboards. I had nowhere to store baking trays/dishes, so recently bought a plastic veg stand to keep them, liquidiser and mincer in, and that sits in a corner on the worktop. Looks a bit unsightly, but what else can you do:rotfl:0

I think you might be thinking of Lakeland - sorry dont know a link for it. I have seen a nice-looking set of metal baskets with light wood top there. Cant justify buying it - as I have a metal set from elsewhere - minus a top. But if I didnt - I'd get it. Every teensy extra bit of worksurface space....0 -

You need to start a new post as you have resurrected a thread from 2008. A floor plan with position of doors, windows, plumbing would help.
Any of the designers in places like Wrens or B and Q should be able to help you. It lot depends on how many people you are cooking for. Can your washer go elsewhere?

Re shelving - or shelves within cupboards - space them to fit the contents. For example, I have my flour stored in a large Lock-n-Lock box. The shelf it's stored on was heighted to fit it with a 1 inch clearance above. Another example is, when we bought our kitchen, we bought extra glass shelves to fit the cupboards that hold the glasses and the mugs. (I have dozens.) Space that was otherwise wasted is now fully utilised.
