Car Insurance - No Claims Bonus

Hello everyone. I hope one of you can help.
I have 2 cars, one car is just a cheap car that i paid £700 for. And one I bought brand new, but now its 6 years old. We have 2 because my wife and children use the better one, and I use the cheap one to drive to work, 5 miles away.
When I bought my Punto new 6 years ago, I was 21 and living with my parents, so to get the car insurance cheaper the car was put in my dads name, so we could get cheaper car insurance. I was put on the policy as a named driver.
The Citroen was just a cheap run around that I bought once i was married £700. My wife uses the Punto - and is a named driver on my dads policy, and the Citroen is in my name with my insurance, but just third party to keep it cheap.
As i don't live with my parents anymore and haven't done for a while, i want to transfer the car out of my dads name and get the insurance in my name.
I have 3 years no claims on the car insurance thats in my name, and we have full no claims on the Punto - although its in my dads name.
If i do transfer the insurance to myself, will I have to start with no, no claims?
Is the no claims with the car or with my dad?
Can i have 2 car insurances in my name?
Can i use the 3 years no claims on both cars?
Thanks in advance
Matthew

You've been comitting fraud you moron
As for the no claims, the punto's is with the policy holder, although a few may give a named driver discount if you remain with them, although they may question your fraud motives0 -
How can you be 27 and have children old enough to drive the other car?0

He means the wife uses the car to transport the children :rotfl:0 -
Ah, that would be why!

i think you knew the answer before you posted ! you CAN NOT use the NCD on 2 policies and as your wife is just a named driver on the policy she has 0 NCD.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

So, just to summarise:
- Matthew is breaking the law by having the car registered in the wrong name and address;
- Matthew has been committing insurance fraud for 6 years by (presumably) failing to notify the insurers that he is the main driver, not his father. The insurance is also doubtless using the wrong address which compounds things further.
Having established those adverse facts, maybe I can answer the question.
There are a good few insurers who will allow "duplication" of NCD from one car to another. So, if your second car (the one actually registered in your name) is insured with one of them, you can get the NCD duplicated on the first car.
I think the first and most obvious thing to do is to contact the second car insurer and ask them what deal they would offer you to insure your "new" other car (as it would be new to you, as you would be getting it transferred into your name from your father's).
If they won't do you a deal, you will just have to start from scratch with another insurer, although many will give an introductory NCD based on your driving experience and the fact you had another car insured.
I should not be mentioning the "experience" on the fraudulently insured car, as that doesn't help your case at all.0 -
As the wife appears (from what has been said) to be the main driver of the Punto then the insurance would either need to be in her name or she should be named as the main driver on the policy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Indeed, the same person is unlikely to be the main driver of both cars (although I expect that isn't always untrue). So it would make sense for the Mrs to be named as main driver on the Punto. I am sure that she already is, given that the OP cares so much about being honest with his insurers. :rolleyes:0

Matthew,
Contact a broker and explain that you have 2 cars, one with 3 years NCD, and one without. Ask them to give you a quote in your name, and one in your wifes name. They will see if there are any policies where they can match the same discount as your NCD (this will be classed as an Introductory bonus NOT a NCD).
Is the Punto registered in your name or your fathers name? If its in your fathers name, get it changed it your name/your wifes name immediately. If its registered in your name at the moment, you will have to explain to the new insurers why there isnt any NCD on it, and where it was insured before etc.
You will need to tell them this before you take out a new policy because, if its always been registered to you, they may not give you a special discount because you have taken out insurance diliberately (sp)on the wrong basis just to get the insurance premium cheaper.
