Trojan Downloader-Win32.agent.jjt

Can anyone help?,This trojan disabled my Norton Anti-Virus and Firewall, and, I cannot get to any " https: " sites. Also no longer able to get Windows Updates. I was able to do several online virus scans and Kaspersky online scan found this Trojan. It put these two processes ( cftmon and spools ) in my msconfig startup. I killed these two processes using Process Explorer before going online,,afraid that if I didnt the trojan would start its dirty deeds. Here is my Hijack This log if anyone can HELP!!!

Download a program called Autoruns (link below).
Reboot into safe mode then run Autoruns.
It will allow you to see what's running and in safe mode you'll be able to delete the infected files.
Hope this helps.

Pete.

• Hey,,Browntoa, Did all the things you said, ran all the malware programs and ccleaner, downloaded and ran SuperAntiSypware. It took out about a dozen items. The two nasties ( cftmon and spools ) do not show up now on reboots. However I still cannot start my Norton Anti Virus and Firewall or get to any ( https: ) sites. Here is a new HijackThis log and SuperAntiSpyware log.

it's looking clean,

as for nortons, follow this

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001120816371506

ignore steps 1 and 2 as we have already done a scan

I supect its a corruption in Nortons

if you do not have the CD's then we will look at free (and just as good) alternatives

you may want to check the hosts file for Symantec related entries, there should be none !!

p2scsl10.gif

go here

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open your hosts file in Notepad. It should look something like the above you open it.

it should ONLY have the entry

127.0.0.1 Localhost

and nothing else

if there is anything else then remove the entry and save the file

You will want to make sure that the file is saved without an extension. You can do this by typing this into the "save as" line when you save the file:
"Hosts"
Make sure you use the quotes to keep the file from being saved with an extension (like .txt). If you find the file has an extension, you will need to get rid of the extension by renaming the file in Explorer to simply "Hosts".

• Hi Browntoa,,Checked my " hosts " file and it looked ok,,the only thing there, is 127.0.0.1 Local host. I havnt got to the symantec site yet to try to repair Norton,,but I will and if it doesnt work I will uninstall it and look for a free Anti-virus and fire wall at your suggestion, One more thing,,,,will it be safe sometime in the future to delete the quarantined items in SuperAntiSpyware?
And I want to thank you again for steering me around,,,very good instructions!

• Hi,,Browntoa,,well I finally got Norton uninstalled and it wasnt easy! I can now get to https: sites and windows updates. But now I need some protection,,,I was thinking Avast Anti virus and Comodo Firewall which are both free,,,but I would like to hear your opinions and suggestions first.
