Freezing soup?

I want to make some soup to freeze, but am not sure of the best way of freezing it in individual portions.
I think I've seen bags for freezing soups and sauces, but I'm not sure where. Any suggestions?

Hi,
I used to use the ziplock bags but sometimes the corners would fold in while freezing and it got to be a bit of a pain as they would not stack etc...
I now use lock and lock tubs from memory 470ml (single portion of soup) 850ml (2 person portion) It goes without saying that they stack well etc although we sometimes have soup surprise (could be leek and potato, could be broth :rotfl: tomato is easy to spot though!)
I am biased though - utterly addicted to lock and lock
I usually get them from lakeland which you can also get quidco cashback on now.
Just what works in this house!0 -
Freeze them in tupperware or whatever you have that is equivalent. When they are frozen put the containers in warm water for a few mins & transfer them to a poly bag labelled with an indelible pen. As long asthe container is mircovalable you can then transfer them to the same container to microvave or if like me you can`t find it then put it into a pyrex container & reheat.0

Thanks everyone! I'll have a look through my shabby tupperware collection, but I may need to spend some cash tomorrow. Can't wait to make some soup!

I use the ziploc/resealable bags (from Home Bargains!) or any old freezer bag really, like ChasingButterflies - but pop them in any suitably sized tupperware type container to fill, then freeze. When frozen, just lift out the now box-shaped bag of soup to store - and your tupperware is free to use again, whilst the bag takes up minimum space in the freezer!
Soup is fab!
I know there have been tips like these on other threads too - I been doing this for years out of necessity!!"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;

I use jam jars.
Just put the hot soup into the jars and pop lid on tightly.
Straight into freezer, once cooled. I usually leave about 1 cm gap at the top for expansion.
This works great for me, as one jar is about one portion.0 -
The "new style" cartons for cream work well. They're made of a more robust plastic. Sainsbury's definitely sell their cream in the ones I'm thinking of. So if you buy cream, consider reusing the cartons for freezing soup (or stock or any other liquid, for that matter).Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

I found that freezing it in bags didn't work for me as the bags (Mr T's) have corner gussets that makes defrosting difficult if you're in a hurry. I'm freezing in containers now and then transferring to bags.0

I use the plastic containers from chinese takeaway, they stack nicely in the freezer and are OK in the microwave too.Marsh Samphire0
