yes, I had a time consuming session with customer services trying to get this to go through (customers services said no, i went back in and did 2 through checkouts . I've worked out:

if the barcode doesn't print out very clear/cut/sharp the single beam hand scanners don't scan/beep it in.

I searched for a pricecheck self-scan point and those multibeam scanners beep it in fine- same at the checkouts.

At the very least the book has to be scanned first. I've always bought something small (27p box of tissues) so there's something else going through- 13p to pay in total.

I downloaded the voucher for the book :T took it toTESCO EXTRA at BALBY and was told 'we dont take internet coupons' AND IF WE DO ,they have to have on them ''Safe Internet Voucher''

We had no luck either, they wouldn't accept this voucher. Are you saying we have to go through self-service checkout for this one?

no, I used the aisle positioned price check scanners. I'd just head for checkout people. they should take the vouchers at customers services, but it gets awkward, especially if the single beam scanners don't read the barcode. as long as it scans at a checkout, the drones there dont seem to care.

there are probably certain promotions that the self checkout units won't accept and apply as the store needs to keep the voucher

When you check participating outlets on www.nationalbooktokens.co.uk, as on the voucher, Tesco don't seem to come up. Have tried several areas...

Printed voucher, took to Local Tesco. Voucher was not scanning by either the till or handheld scanner, but assistant ended up putting it through manually, as £4 Voucher.

If you can be bothered, some people have downloaded a clearer barcode from the internet and copied and pasted that electronically onto the coupon, to make sure it does scan, which can be less of a hassle at checkout and which are also then much more likely to scan at the self service checkout.

It is one of of those coupons that will go through the Tesco checkouts regardless of whether they accept them, like the Somerfield ones (which they def don't accept, before people start trying) even tho they do scan in tesco. it'll depend on your local store's policy whether they a) take them at all, even against the book and b) whether they take them against other shopping.

there are also various theories as to which sort of operator to choose and some people find that the younger kids or newbies (who maybe aren't in uniform yet) are more likely to put it through. You can always say, can you just try that one for me & you'll know if they are willing to try it then the till will def accept it!

Don't know how you download... Checkout assistant I went to has been there quite a number of years so assumed she knew how to override vouchers...

My Tesco did not stock the book, but I found that Sainsburys at Street did at £3.99 - and they took the voucher.:j
