Not sure if this is legally correct but seems logical.

You read the meter before you handed the keys back. From that moment the house belonged to the mortgagee in repossession. They should have drained the system down and turned the electrics off. If they didn't, that is down to them. As the subtitute owners of the property prior to sale, I would have thought the bill should have gone to them.

    Hi All,
We read meter the day we left. We told E-on,and they are still our provider at the new property.

In that case you have closed your account at that house and opened another one for the new place (so to speak). E-on know this, that is why they sent the bill to the present occupier and not to you. If they wanted you to pay it it would be addressed to you and come to your new address.

I wouldn't worry about, in fact I'd forget about it altogether.

I would turn the gas/electricity/water off and drain the system though.

OK, without reading any other threads of yours I just presumed you had handed the keys back and gone for voluntary repossession.

Clearly someone is responsible for the house and the utilities should be with them.

    hi lookingforhelp,

Geordiejoes comments sound right, if you are still with E-on for the new property then if they 'knew' you were the person responsible for the other property they would have added it to your exisiting bill...considering they havnt i would forget about it and let the mortgage company argue with it with the new owner when they reposess and sell it on.

i had similar situation when i moved into current house, it had a PAYG meter in which was with powergen but had an amount owing on it as previous tenant hadnt switched it off. i was asked to pay but refused as wasnt my repsonsibility, before i owned house. this they agreed and it was wiped clean.

you have informed E-on that you no longer reside at property, so it's probably just a standard contractual letter they have to send to any houses owing money.

So basically just ignore as you have already informed E-on when you left, so technically the amount owing is not from your use.

i think i got there in the end?

    Dave.
