Glasgow to Manchester & hotel

Hi,

We need transport from Glasgow-Manchester on 8th April, returning 17th April & 1 nights accomodation near Manchester Airport (8th only).

I've looked at some train fares & they seem expensive to me. I've also looked at flying & the cheapest option I can find for 2 adults is £147 via Flybe.

My concern is that on the way home there is a delay in the flight to Manchester which would result in us missing the Glasgow flight home.

All we want from the hotel is to be near the airport, clean & a good price.

Any help would be appreciated.

Would suggest Bewleys for the hotel (having previously booked another "Manchester Airport Hotel" to find it tool 10-15 mins in a taxi to get there. we were offered a shuttle bus if we wanted to wait the 40 mins to the next one!) Bewleys is at the airport and all rooms are £89. (but will save you taxis) The flights will only go up in price so unless you want to drive (parking available at Bewleys) you will need to leave plenty time incase of delays to avoid having to buy a new flight on the return (cheaper fares will not offer flexibility)

If you want cheap - try megabus or national express for glasgow to manchester direct coach services. Quick look on megabus - you can get it for less than £20 return per person and national express at £10 return each for those dates!

I can see the Megabus one for £51.50 total cost but can't seem to see the Nat Exp one.

    Have you used either before?

I use national express all the time, although admitedly i havent done glasgow to manchester route before - but i am booked onto it for mid april - got in early and grabbed it for £1 each way! I have no reason to doubt them, and i'd happily use megabus but always finding nat exp cheaper. with regards to nat exp one, make sure you select glasgow to Manchester Central (not the airport) where you can pick up 'Fun Fare' prices for most journeys (clearly marked next to the radio button for selecting the bus).

I have found my way around the sites now - thanks.

May just bus it down & fly back. The thought of a 5 hour bus journey after a 10-11 hour flight isn't appealing.

Do u know Man Airport? Is the Travelodge as close as Bewleys?

    Hi
The travel lodge is in Didsbury which is about 5 miles from the airport, but there is the premier inn in Heald Green which is cheaper than Bewleys at about £50 per night and is about 5 mins walk from Heald Green train station from where you can get the train into the airport. It costs £1.90 return. Also just spotted return train tickets on the transpennine express for £56 for 2 adults but you need to book it as 2 singles. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I just priced it & it worked out a £85. I think it may be too near to my dates of travel to get a good deal.

If all you want is an airport hotel and really don't mind which one then Priceline may work for you. Last July I paid £50 for a 4 star for the airport area which confirmed as Marriott . Beautiful hotel and very handy at a bargain price. Three star would be a bit cheaper. There's an excellent priceline thread on here and check out what people have bid and got on www.biddingfortravel.com and https://www.betterbidding.com.

    Hi,

With regards to the National Express route, we're thinking about just going into Manchester Central & staying nearby. Are there any reasonably priced hotels near? How much would it cost in a taxi into the airport from there?

    Thanks

Hi Just phoned a few local taxis and the best price was £23, but you can get a train into the airport from piccadilly it only takes 20 mins far quicker than a taxi. I will check out hotel prices later.
