recovering a plywood/laminated desk, how to?

Hi all 
Hoping you can all help me please. I have been searching for a desk thats the same size as the one I have now (a corner desk holding a 19" crt monitor), I havent been sucessful. So I wondered if I could recover this desk, mainly the top? The desk itself is fine but as I spend a lot of time here either using the pc or crafting the top has become a little worn. Its light beach in colour, any advise welcome.

I've got the same problem, just started to look for a solution, possibly laminate sheeting which would be hard wearing but not too sure of the price, if you find a fitter maybe see if you buy offcuts from them, builders merchants might be a place to start. Might be easier to get a new monitor:D
You do not say of what material the top is made from. If it is MDF/Chipboard covered with a plastic type coating you are limited. You could recover the top with a thin ply veneer and, put a new edging around the desk to cover the join. You may also be able to get a sheet of Formica and glue that over it.
If it is a real wood veneer, then a very gentle sanding down (240 grade) and recoating with a hard wearing Polyeurathene (Diamond Glaze) type varnish would work well.

just go for the iron on veneer and recover it. Or get a new length of contiboard cut and replace the top, an 8x2 in beech should set you back about £18, cheaper for smaller sizes obviously.0
