Need help to transfer video from Sony Handicam HC37E to Laptop

Hi

I connect my laptop by USB A to B into the socket with the USB symbol on the side of the handicam. Problem is my computer doesnt register that new hardware has been connected. I dont have this problem with my stills camera or phone which connect and transfer data fine.

I have installed all the software that came with the Handicam and make sure its switched on and conected to the mains. My computer is on Vista.

I use all this stuff but have no idea how it works or how to fix it when it doesnt so it would be a great help if anyone can help me to sort it out.

Thanks for your time

Nick

One thing to try is to switch off the PC, plug in the camcorder and switch it on and then reboot the PC. It may recognise it then.

Does you PC have firewire as that is the interface normally used for camcorders?

Sounds like a Vista driver issue. Find the manufacturers site for your handicam and they should list drivers for your model. Hopefullyb the drivers are available for vista. Download the drivers and install (instructions should be online).
Hopefully this will resolve your problem.

Definately a Vista issue. It's not supported by the Sony Usb driver.

USB Streaming - Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Media Center and XP operating systems only. Windows Vista does not support this feature.

Here's a link to the Sony website where this quote comes from

Looks as if your going to have to transfer it to an XP computer first or install a firewire link on your laptop if it doesn't have one already.

Sony call the interface i-Link, or DV out, this is the same as Firewire/IEEE1394.
As previously stated you may need to get a suitable interface card for your laptop.
No software is required for this just fire up movie maker and off you go.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
