It's conceivable that you could've broken one of them while fitting it.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

It is a Fujitsu Siemens Li1705. It came with 1 Gb of Ram in two 512 modules. I have upgraded with two 1gb modules.

I dont think it can be faulty ram as:
    1. I used my own ram (see post above) that works on my own computer which caused exactly the same thing to happen in my dad's computer.
    2. The RAM still worked in the computer. I assume the computer would screw up in some way if it were faulty?
From memory it is DDR2 and it fitted (i.e. it had the correct number of pins in the correct places - before and after the little divot bit!?).

I know this thread is old, but this may help someone. I'm a PC technician and have just done the same thing - upgraded a Li1705 to 2GB or RAM and had the same problem - only shows 766MB.

Solution was to flash the BIOS - go to the Fujitsu site and download the CD image, burn it to a blank CD using your favourite burning software (I used Nero), and boot from it. BIOS gets updated to version D and full memory is recognised. AFAICS it reserves 256MB for graphics which you cannot change, leaving me with 1760MB available in System Properties.

Hope this is of help to someone. Fujitsu link is http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/com/support/downloads.html
