My elderly mother who is hard of hearing and with poor sight has a habit of not putting the phone back correctly. This means that she can't be contacted and her telephone linked emergency alarm won't work.
Is anybody aware of any device that can be plugged into a spare telephone socket which will light up when the line is in use ie when the phone has not been correctly replaced. I've done a search on the internet but have only found circuit diagrams to build such devices.

Some phones (my dect handset) have a light on the base that shows when it is in use or not...is that any good to you?
It's only a small light though, and is easily missed, I'll give you.0 -

Thanks IClaudius but these products indicate when the phone is ringing, I'm after something to indicate when the line is busy.0

I had this problem with the phone that my parents used a year or so ago - they would put the handset back too high on the rest and it would remain connected.
Given that wired telephones are cheap these days, I replaced it with one that was designed in such a way that if the handset was not replaced correctly it would fall off the phone! We've not had an instance of "phone line busy for several days" since.0 -
What about something like in the picture at the top-right of this page? http://www.headsetco.co.uk/access.htm0
