Problems with Scottish Power?

Hi,

I joined Scottish Power last july and payment with direct debit. I recently got a bill which was thousands out from my meter reading and i have been trying to get in touch with them about it, it is for gas and i tried logging in online calling them, was put on hold several times and cut off. Today i finally got through after twelve days, i asked why the figure was so different i have five digits mine start with a 01 and theirs start with a 40, hence 40000 units difference? How much gas is this? He said there must be a problem and asked me to read and re read the meter three times, i know how to count and so he has made an appointment for the meter to be read, i mean i could not possibly have used 40000 units of gas i live in a small three bedroom house and the heating comes on for two hours at night and two in the morning!

Then i asked why i had not had an electric bill and he told me it was because i was on a prepayment meter, i told him i was not and he could not work out what had happened. I used to have a prepayment meter with a previous company but not with this lot so he has emailed the team and they will set me up on the right plan. I mean do they think they are going to bill me from last july now? surely it is there responsibility to check whether i am on prepayment or not, when i applied through a direct debit scheme?

his seems like a whole load of effort from me to sort out their problems? Anyone else had this sort of difficulty?

Carls x

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper Rampant Recycler
40000 uits of gas is appox 440,000kWh or 1,240,000 kWh which will cost approx £11,880.00 or £33,480.00(depending on your meter type) so I would ask them for time to pay it back!!

Seriously, this is not an unusual situation, with all utility companies. Wait until the meter reader comes and see if he can sort it out - almost certainly they have got your account mixed up with the wrong meters.

Yeah they must have! But all of that with the trying to get through and the prepayment issues with electric what is going on! i think my eight year old could do better ;o)
  • One thing to remember when calling Scottish Power or any large company ................... The staff you speak with are often far removed from the actual dealings of the company? (either by distance as being in a call centre, halfway across the globe or just not having a CLUE about the dealings of the company they work for)

Basically they are just DATA LOGGERS ................ i.e. they access your account on their system, enter your enquiry in the relevant box and (hopefully) forward it on to the right department.

If, as seem to be more common these days with staff turn over being so high, they often do not have a clue or are totally confused by the system they have to use and just tell you what you want to hear and then tap the wrong buttons leaving you no better off then before you called them!

If you have a complex enquiry it is ALWAYS better to put it in writing ................ DO NOT rely on Emails ............ they never get read at the best of times, so a Recorded Delivery letter will often get a better result, if not as quick as you may hope.
