Do we haggle the price or simply pay up?

    It's very difficult to determine whether the price the HA wants is "fair" or inflated.

    If it's fair, then I can understand the HA not accepting any offers. If it's inflated, but you get a discount, you really have to decide if the price they want is one you're prepared to pay.

    There is no such thing as "the right price" .... all valuations are simply opinions.

    If the OP posted the type of property, approximate (for privacy reasons) location, other details, and the HA's valuation, I'm sure there are plenty of nosey barstewards such as myself who would enjoy poking around various websites to evaluate the HA's valuation.

    It's a 3 bedroom end-of-terrace house with a large garden, located in Tooting, London, 3 stops away from a tube station, 2 toilets (1 downstairs, 1 upstairs in bathroom). We moved in new i.e. after it was built in 2004. Small kitchen, large sitting room, loft, closet, secure parking area - we live in a close. I think that should do.

    The HA have not come up with a price yet - only sent out a surveyor last week - they said it'd take about 4 weeks.

  • It's alright guys. I found this on the net
    Mortgage approvals usually last up to three months.

    We suggest that you start to arrange your mortgage when you have received the offer and decide to go ahead and buy your home. It is at this point you will start to become responsible for survey and legal costs.

    If you make arrangements before you get the offer, there is a chance the mortgage offer will end before you have had a chance to decide whether to go ahead and you will have to start again.
