Help! Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File

i'm trying to update my brothers navman with hgv discs.
when I try to update points of interest, it displays a message "Unknown file format".

The properties of the file are:
Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File
opens with microsoft excel

i'm using windows xp, internet explorer, have excel student edition.

Please can someone help me?

I think you may need to re-name your question, as it depnds what file format the Navman wants. .csv are files converted from a database and/or excel which can be read then into any other database and/or excel. This type of file to me is logical for loading up for point of interest, but do not know anything about Navman.

Just make sure when you opened them in excel you did not convert them to excel files. .xls

thanks donny-gal. i just pressed open with excel and it came up with the error message. brother gone to get his navman instruction book - hopefully that will shed some light! He bought these discs for updating his satnav and they are supposedly for his make and model.
