Sky Multiroom - Removing viewing card

I have Sky multiroom upstairs and downstairs. In the box downstairs, I have a Setanta sports subscription.

I plan to go away for a few days at Easter. The people I am visiting have Sky, but not Setanta. I have considered taking my Setanta activated Sky viewing card with me so we can watch some of the football.

Now, I understand that with Multiroom it is a condition that both digiboxes are permanently connected to a telephone line, to prevent someone from giving their card to someone else so they get Sky on the cheap, which I understand.

However, if I leave both boxes connected, but remove the Sky viewing card, will I incur the wrath of Sky? i.e. Do Sky simply check that the box is present, or do they also check whether the viewing card is also in place? My two year old regularly pulls the downstairs viewing card out anyway!

I cannot see anything on the web, and do not think this is the sort of thing I should ask Sky about!

All advice gratefully received.

Dave

Short answer is "I don't know because I don't have multiroom"

However, don't bother, because your card will not work in the box you are planning to use it on. Cards are 'paired' with specific sky boxes.

Cheers - however there is no cross referencing between Sky and Setanta, therefore Setanta have no knowledge and therefore no ties to the box. Consequently the viewing card can be used to view the Setanta channels on any Sky box - obviously the Sky channels will not work, but Setanta ones can be viewed.

We found this out by chance when someone here recommended swapping the cards around as part of investigating a signal strength problem a couple of weeks back. I can can view Setanta channels when I move the hosting "Sky viewing card" onto my box upstairs, and also someones box across the road !

I was really curious as to whether Sky need just the box connected to validate that the multiroom Ts and Cs are being complied with, or do they need both the box and card present. I know that they do charge two single subscriptions if they think you are running multiroom at different addresses.

I had had a look on digitalspy, but can find a few posts where they confirm that Setanta activated cards can be moved freely between boxes, there is nothing apparent as to how this ties in with what happens if you have multiroom and move the just the card, rather than the box and the card.
