Beware of flybe.com

I was planning a trip to Manchester with my huusband unfortunatley it had to be cancelled. I contacted Flybe as was told that I could claim my tax back on the flights. I then had a nice email back from them saying that as tax was £54.80pp and the administration charge for the refund was £50.00pp they would refund me the grant total of £9.60. I contacted them to ask how they justified this charge and was just ignored. Anyone any ideas what I can do?

Read the T&C carefully before you decide to book?

Sorry if that was not what you wanted to hear.
  • Claim on your travel insurance if appropriate...

I don't see why this thread should be titled 'Beware of Flybe'.
If it is in Flybe's T&Cs to charge an admin fee of £50.00, they are just sticking to them.
Was it Flybe's fault that you had to cancel the flight?

    I agree with Incapuppy.

    I agree, but isn't a £50 admin charge a bit excessive?

How can they justify it? Well they will need to employ someone to deal with the corresponence and process the refund. People do not work for free so the admin fee goes towards that.

As others have said things like this are set out in their T's and C's, if you do not agree to them feel free to buy a fully flexible fare from the likes of BA for several time more than you paid with a budget carrier.

Unfortunately this option no longer exists. Flybe has taken over most of BA's domestic routes, and generally does not face competition. And this is a pity, because Flybe is rather more expensive than BA: particularly if you calculate the price per kilometre.

Much as I hate to talk on topic, I would steer clear of Flybe if possible as well ... Went from Glasgow to sunny Brum last year in a WW2 relic with propellers. After an hour's delay, (although admittedly good entertainment) the crew asked a rather portly gentleman to move to the front of the plane from the back to balance the load. The pilot then decided to up the price of his shares in Flybe Underwear and try and land at 45 degrees until the runway was about 20m below ...

Back to the op - DO avoid Flybe (or should I say 'Fly Maybe' as they are referred to here at MAN).

Horrendous delay of 11 hours last year and Flybe couldn't give a stuff. We wrote to Flybe on our return, and eventually were awared a 50% refund of total air fares paid, that being compensation for disrupted outbound journey. However, this took 3 letters and approx 3 months to settle. I would say perservere, and deal with the CEO, don't waste time dealing with so-called customer services they will fob you off with an excuse. Even if these charges are in the t&c, they are way too high, you may as well write a letter (send recorded) and hopefully you may get somewhere.

    Good luck!

FlyBE's own T&Cs suggest the admin fee is only £15 however (or £30 for a return flight, but not £50!)
