Hi Has anyone stayed at the Protur Aparthotel Bonaire in Cala Bona Majorca?
I am looking to travel with my mum, my 16 year old son & 5 year old daughter. The problem is the accomodation, it states there is 1 twin bedroom & two sofa beds in the lounge area. My son is nearly 6 foot & is big built & wanted to know if these sofa beds were for children or are big enough for adults to sleep on. Myself & my mum are also on the larger size so even swapping around wouldnt make any difference.
If anyone has stayed there can they please let me know what these sofa beds are like. Thanks

We went two years ago. From what I can remember it was two two settees that were the same size as a single bed. They had firm cushions at the back which went on to the floor. Then the mattress became the bed. I would say they are big enough for an adult but may not be as wide as a six foot bed.
You may want to email the hotel direct. We had asked Thompson for a room near the restaurant but on arrival they said they don't always get requests through and any queries to ring direct. http://www.protur-hotels.com/en/hotels/protur-bonaire-aparthotel.html
I will say the hotel was clean, had a microwave, kettle and fridge. Supermarket across the road to stock up on cold drinks. Entertainment every night but we went may BH week and mainly smaller children. My daughter then age 8 loved the kids club and was quening at the door most days for it to open. Other stuff for son as competeions in the pool, football etc. He's bound to pal up with some one.
We ate in the resturent every night but if you go SC you can pay to eat there as well. Breakfasts fab, they have a chef on show who cooks pancakes, bacon eggs etc to order.
I would certainly recommend and it is some where we would go again.0 -

Wow thanks for all the info. So do you sleep on the floor then when you said the cushions go on the floor? Also what was the town like of an evening & some people have said that its cheaper to book self catering & then pay for half board when you get there. My son is really fussy so Im hoping there will be food he likes.0 -
I'm going out there on the 5th april and am really looking forward to it. It gets great reviews.
Buyitall , could you post or pm me on your return and just let me know if there are any kids clubs or entertainment for them on ? Also whether the resort restaurants are mainly shut.

Hi,
We have been to Hotel Bonaire in Cala Bona, it is a very nice aparthotel,
my grandaughter and i had the bedroom, which has 2 single beds in , and my husband had one of the sofa beds in the lounge are, he is a tall chap nearly 6ft, and he slept there without any problems.....Hotel Bonaire is a friendly hotel with a lovely pool and lots of facilities....the accomodation is spacious and clean, we were there on a self catering basis, but we had breakfast in he restaurant a few times, it was a great choice and lovely for children, with their own section....vouchers were bought at reception...dinner was also very good with a great choice........Cala Bona itself is a small resort on the level, with a picturesque harbour surrounded by restaurants, it is a level walk along to Cala Millor. there is no beach as such, but the lovely pool at the Bonaire more than makes up for that....Overall, it is a small friendly resort for families and couples..Hope you have a lovely time.0 -

No I meant the back cushions go on the floor to make the bed wider.
There are all the usual pizza/ sea food type restaurants in front of the marina or a longer walk into next bay cala millor.
My kids are both fussy eaters so we find it easier to book HB and go into the restaurant where they can help their selves. From experience on previous holidays we used to trail round looking for somewhere evryone liked and by then it was late. The beauty of this hotel you can finsh you meal/ coffee etc in peace while the kids hit the mini disco outside. That's if they are old enough to leave the restauarnt on their own.
Thomson's run the kids club - from memory split into two age groups each group gets at least 2 hours per day they also do some extra sessions in the evening.
Have a great trip.0 -
Hi I Claudius and lulu girl,
Got back from the Bonaire yesterday, had a lovely time, the apartments are spacious and v clean, maid service 5 times a week, not on Wed or Sun. The kids facilities are good - little playground, sand pit, big football pitch, table tennis, pool table, teenagers room. The sofabeds were just about long enough for my husband, who is 6'3". The sofabeds are certainly sturdy and wide enough for an adult, but because they have wooden arm rests at either end, if the person was too tall, they would have to poke their feet out of the space between the mattress and the armrest - hope that makes sense! The outdoor pool is freezing cold at the moment, a few children jumped in (including my own) but jumped straight out again! There is an indoor pool and a fitness room though.
The kids clubs weren't on, but there was a general activity programme on each day - 4 activities during the day (quiz/pool tournament etc) and in the evenings kids disco, and evening entertainment. The activities were always well-supported, so there was a good atmosphere in the bar etc.
The resort itself was just 'waking up'. I thought it was nice seeing the owners painting the front of the restaurants, getting things ready for the Summer. In Cala Bona, about half the places were open, Cala Millor was livelier, probably about three-quarters of the places were open. The weather was pleasant while we were there - shorts and tshirt kind of weather, think we were lucky though, it had been quite bad before we got there.
The reps are v helpful and around a lot, their advice was v honest, not just selling trips!
We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, but you can buy tickets - 15 euros for eve meal, 10 euros for bfast, kids half price. The menu (large buffet) is on the notice board each day so you know whether you like the food or not before buying a ticket.
A few other tips - bike hire is v cheap, we did that one day and cycled along past Cala Millor up to a little fortress on the headland. Car hire - we hired a car for the whole 5 days we were there and it only cost £30 from holiday autos, but in the hotel car hire was advertised from 52 euros per day, so prob cheaper to book before you go. The organised excursions seemed quite expensive to me, we explored a bit in the car and petrol cost less than 20 euros for the 5 days.
Finally, if you have any special requests about your room, I heard the reps tell someone that it is better to email the hotel directly, because the hotel doesn't always get the info through if you go via Thomson.
Hope that helps, have a great time xx0 -
