Trying to make that first step

I've just been sitting here reading through loads of your stories and seeing how well you're all doing. I need to be like you lot and face up to things. At the moment I can't even face going into the kitchen and digging out all the paperwork just to see how much debt I'm actually in. I'm new to this site I only joined yesterday.

    Hi Sue,
Honestly thinking about it IS worse than actually doing it!
At least you know exactly what you're facing and can get help!
look on the newbee sticky thread about doing a full SOA, you don't have to post it up here if you don't want to, but we are brilliant at helping people shave outgoings off.
Once you know exactly what you're facing, CCCs or Payplan could REALLY help you.
Grab a cup off tea, dig EVERYTHING out and list it in terms of incomings and outgoings, honestly no matter how scary the figure it feels great to finally know what you're facing, even if it's a large amount.
You will not be judged on here, we are all in the same situation, some worse than others

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Welcome Sue :hello: Well done for making a first post, once you're here you'll find you don't want to leave ;)
Perhaps try and st yourself small targts to achieve each day; maybe today try and gather together all your financial paperwork and list all your debts. It can be help just to know here you're at and where you're starting from.
Keep reading all the stuff on here and have a look at some of the other boards too, like the old-style one for some moneysaving hints on cooking etc.
Have your read the sticky about doing an soa?? Again, it will really help you to see what you have coming in and out, and we can all have a look and try and help you make savings :D

Good luck, welcome and if you have any questions please just ask; we're a friendly bunch and theres usually someone around to help :D

  • welcome to the boards!

there's loads of support on here & everyone's very kind & helpful.

Like the previous poster said if u can't face doing it all at once then maybe finding out all the info in stages would work for you.

Just think, the sonner you start sorting out your finances, the sonner your dfd (debt free day)!:rotfl:

    Good luck with your journey

  • Hi Sue

Well done for making the difficult first post. I really want to echo what the others have said, I always knew that I had loads of debt but never REALLY was aware of it and was just treading water.

The other people on here are so supportive and so inspirational and so helpful. I have been posting on here for just over three months (so quite a newbie) but I have learned so much and have yet to see someone post a problem that doesn't have a solution, it might be bloody hard work but there is a solution there.

Take a deep breath, dig out the paperwork and then pop your SOA up on here (here is a link to a website where you can put together your SOA and then you can copy and paste it into here). It will be really hard to face up to the paperwork and to see your situation laid out in front of you, but very soon you will feel in control of what is going on and feel better than you have in ages.

Good luck with getting this all together - post any questions or worries you have on here and you will get great advice and support.

    Morning Sue,

Welcome to the boards. I agree with bank of slate's post, thinking about it is definitely worse than facing up and doing it. You can see from me signature that we had a lot to deal with it, but every month it is shrinking and planning how to deal with it is the thing that allows us to sleep at night.

Be brave, dig out the paperwork and go for it, it is such an achievement when you see the figures going down.

    Good luck, Lorna
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

Hi Sue, welcome aboard. This place is the best place to be for advice on debt. Whatever your situation someone has either been through it or is going through it and their guidance will be invaluable. Once you've made that first step towards sorting everything out you will be surprised how addictive money saving can be.
  • Can someone just tell me what a newbie stickythread is and how i go about finding it. Also what does soa stand for. Sorry to appear so ignorant but this is all really new to me.
  • Hi angel if you go on the main Debt Free Wannabe page and look at the top there are some stickies that explain things to new members and also a dictionary of all the terms that are used on here.

    Good luck
