Hey I am 40 and this is getting on my nerves …I need an Online Bachelors degree to make my life and family secure. I have been working as an electronic technician for 20 years. I have also spent 10 years as a labor representative (Union). Now I am tired of watching other’s with any kind of B. degree move ahead and not me. I do not need an Engineering degree. Just something that says B. degree on it. My company does not have a generous tuition reimbursement. I also need my degree fast…I am not getting any younger. All this is making my family worried about me. I have info about online B.degrees but need accredited ones to earn a better future. It would be pleasant of you folks if you can provide me with useful inputs. I know that there are options like PU, Ashford …but can you suggest some more to make me decide better considering the finance issue.

You could do a degree via the Open University and use Tesco Clubcard vouchers to help finance it. If you did two modules per year you'd have it in 3yrs. Two modules is hard work but can be done if you're dedicated.
Good info on their site but I know nothing about engineering so can't really advise on specifics. What I do know is that if you phone your regional office they'll be able to offer good advice.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
I'm sorry, but this is a joke right? You think that any degree in anything from almost anywhere is going to guarantee that you progress in your workplace? You also say that others with your degree are progressing ahead of you - if this is the case it's not the qualifactions that seem to be the problem. What sort of roles are you wanting to move into?0

I think the OP is possibly from the USA (the spelling of the word 'labor' is a bit of a giveaway). I don't know what the sitation with university education is over there, but there always seems to be stuff all over the web about 'online bachelors degrees', hence the OP's concern about needing an accredited one. It does seem a bit strange that this person's employer is suddenly demanding them to have a degree - they're not something you pick up in a supermarket!
OP - could you not look for employment elsewhere? How can having a degree improve your skills if you already work in the industry?
Also, degree level education is not something you undertake willy-nilly - you've got to be really into what you're learning or you won't get far.0 -
Also, degrees are academic, not vocationally related. What you could do is look into doing Level 4 or Level 5 (degree level) vocational training courses. They are work training specific for within your industry. SOme industries who have their own regulatory bodies (CITB etc) endorse the training.
If it's to advance your career prospects when you are already working wihin the field, getting a first degree is a bit pointless I would have thought. Check out the Level 4 and Level 5 training courses and you might see they are even better than a degree for the purposes you want it for.Homer: I want to share something with you, Bart: The three little sentences that will get you through life. Only $500? I've always wanted to have a doctorate, but not sure I could handle another 3 years after doing 4 already. Sounds bargainous to me!0
