Trainline Advice please

We are travelling from Port Talbot to Bridlington and have noticed a substantial saving by buying single tickets in favour of return ones.

What concerns me is that we can get a ticket, using a family railcard, from Port Talbot to Bridlington for just £49.30 (value advance single A) but they only give you 10 minutes between trains at Bristol Parkway to Doncaster. What happens if the train we catch to Bristol Parkway is late and we miss that Doncaster train ? Do they then charge you extra ????

Advice needed please.

Also we are aiming to travel on the 1st April, have we left it too late to order ?

If you have a through ticket then they will allow you on the next train if you miss one because of late running. Separate tickets is debatable - probably not.

If the tickets are still there you can buy them. If they are sent by post they should arrive on Wednesday of Thursday of next week.

If you check the minimum connection time for Bristol Parkway on the following link it says 10 minutes http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/BPW.html

as your connection time is the minimum the ticket is allowed to be sold, but you may well miss the connection if the train is late, if this occurs you need to find a member of staff to validate your ticket for travel on a later train - this must be done before boarding the train or you will be charged ... it may also be worth checking your options in case you do miss your connection - if the next train isn't for an hour or so you may want to rethink.

what dzug says is spot on too, if you don't have through tickets beware !

Thanks guys. How would i know however if i would get through tickets as it would be ordering direct from trainline.com ????

Actually, thinking about it, i would imagine it would be a through ticket.

The 'minimum connecting time' at BPW is a bit of a red herring - it's only really there if you have to change platforms, which I'm fairly sure you won't.

Coming from Port Talbot you'll get off the train (probably heading for London), wait on the same platform and get the next train heading north. It will either have gone or you will catch it - you won't have to rush anywhere.

Anf if you have specified Port Talbot to Bridlington as your journey, then yes that's a through ticket.

And see if you can find the ticket on First Great Western's site - it should be there and you will save the trainline's fees

Thanks dzug. Yes i think your right about the platform being the same as Bristol Parkway is pretty small.

We have the tickets booked up now and saved £80. So thanks for all your help and the help of others.
