hi everyone,
i want to get some web hosting (someone i know personally runs a small business doing it).
I need it for e-mail and a few photos of the family etc. but nothing amazing but i want to manage my domain by myself - i don't want someone else in control, after all 3 or 4 years down the line I could have a falling out etc and I don't want anyone to have control over my e-mail/domain thing.
I'm all new to this so i would appreciate any comments or suggestions as to how to go about this... i had a look on 123reg and the domain i want is available but i dont know how i get from the domain to my webhosting.
thank you

You will have to get the nameservers pointing to the hosting site.
Who does your webhosting, if they do domains aswell buy it via them.
I use 34sp and do it all in one, not the cheapest but then again not the dearest.0 -
Microsoft do a free site builder and free domain name aimed at small business, but there is nothing stopping you using itSince when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

Buy your domain from 123-reg - they're as good as anyone else.
It'll take no more than 48 hours for the domain to get enabled, and once it is, use 123-reg's control panel to change the nameservers to your web host - you'll need to ask your web host for their nameserver(s).Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
You could just use 123-reg instant site.0

well, my partner got a domain through him but when i checked it it was registered to him and not to my partner?
so if i brought one via him then i'd expect it to be in his name... which could cause problems down the line if we ever had a falling out.
touch wood he's a good guy and i dont expect to fall out with him but if i ver do i would want the security of knwoing my email address is in my own hands so to speak...
thanks to everyone, you really dont know how much i appeciate all of your help

I use 123-Reg and Telivo, but have more domains with Telivo as there domains are cheaper by 30p.
You would buy a hosting package (I get mine from a small company called Hosting Puppy for 50p a month). I tell the domain to go to hosting puppy by changing the name servers (you can change them at any time if you want to move from your web host etc).
Then you would upload your stuff to your web host. You could find a nice website template at https://www.freecsstemplates.org0 -
Godaddy includes a free email addy with each domain you get (costs about £3.70 a year with codes if you google godaddy codes). You get limited free hosting as well.0
