Who cares? I had a home last week, I still have a home, and I am sure I will have a home next week. What's it worth? Priceless - as it provides shelter for my family.0

So how much have you lost in the past month/quarter/year
Well BB I reckon my little portfolio has dropped around 5% in the last 6 months, which amounts to a paper loss of around £170,000:(
But! there's a lot of bigger fish than me in the BTL market, some who could swallow me tomorrow, no problem, thank god for that little reduction in capital gains from 40% to 18%:D0 -

What sort of jobs?
What is well paid?
Seeing an advert for a job means 1 happy person and 299 with "No thanks" letters. Which you don't see until you're one of the 299. Especially if you are the 1 and mix with other 1s.0 -

He's probably one of these BTL merchants who doesn't understand why people dont want to work at starbucks for minimun wage because they cant afford his rents.0 -
My friend bought a lovely house 2 years ago at £115k. She spent two years fitting a new kitchen, decorating, doing the garden. All her spare time was thinking about it, doing it, going out and looking for/buying things for it.
Then she got the neighbour from hell. And she was very unhappy, so moved back to her parents' house and decided she'd sell it to get away from the neighbour.
She put it on the market and has a buyer at £125k.
So for 2 years she's paid out a mortgage and all that money on a house.
If she'd stayed at her parents, or rented instead, she'd have saved more money than she's made.
Cost to buy must have cost her £1500. Cost to sell will be £2000. Cost to do the changes/improvements will easily have been £4000.
She's not "made" £10k.0 -

OK, it's Easter and raining outside, so I'll now post an annoyance I have.
"in my area .... house prices are going up"
"in my area .... everything's shiny and lovely"
"in my area ... the streets are paved with gold"
"in my area ... houses are selling like hot cakes"
"in my area ........."
I think quotes similar to this, and adverse statements, should be substantiated at least with the town or first two parts of the postcode.
In my area, I've no idea what's going on to be honest. I have property bee and I see houses dropping by £10k or 10% whichever is greater. Overall, probably 15% of all stock has dropped by this amount since 1 February.
I see some houses selling. I see MANY going to auction.
Overall, I've no idea what's happening here. Slowdowns/crashes/whatever ... are veeeeeerrrrrryyyyy slooooowwwwww things.
You can't watch them. They're like a creeping death.
