OneTel

About 3 months ago I signed up for what I thought was free evening and weekend calls with OneTel. Their charge was waived for a year, there was £20 in call charges awarded, and R points available too. Despite paying the R points, they have since informed me that as I had my home phone number registered with them already, the other perks (no charge for 12 months, etc) does not apply to me. Has anyone else lost out this way and is there anything one can do?

We signed up for onetel deal - same as you. I guess.

Took several emails, before we had the monthly fee credited.(in the end )

Actually stayed with them, 'cos we use the free evening, we get, calls as British Gas customers.

  • Did you have your line registered with them before you signed up for the free deal?

I had my line signed up with them and went for the offer as their website clearly showed it was available to existing customers. I signed up in February and noticed in March that I was still being charged - I then spoke to customer services who apologised and added the credit. However, I have recently checked my bills and notice that since that phone call I have been charged every month. I contacted customer services recently but they claim that as I received a refer a friend fee, the 12 months free offer does not apply.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has managed to get this decision reversed as I suspect that I am not the only one to have lost out on the deal.

I did the same in April. Despite several telephone calls to CS and promises that they would not charge me the following month (this was promised each month for 4 months) they continued to do so, + they never credited my account with the £20 I was promised. In the end I just cancelled the contract and have now signed up to primus saver which is cheaper than Onetel in any case. Had they played the game as promised I would still be a Onetel customer.

Update - I decided to try one last time - sent an email pointing out the terms of the original offer (found on here) which clearly showed the details. Called back by CS - good chat with their rep - Onetel have honoured the offer and credited the £3.99 per month back to my account for the missing months. Result! NTL line, Onetel for evening/weekend calls, mobile phone on 3 with 500 minutes free (free phone/connection/cashback deal effectively down to £0) for daytime/mobile calls, 1899 programmed in phone for other calls if up to the limit. Now all I need to do is get the NTL phone line charge reduced ...

  • I was with Onetel more than a year ago as I have been with TalkTalk for more than a year but just this week my phone seems to have reverted to the Onetel answer service rather than BT 1571. Most irritating considering I had major problems signing up for the Onetel answer service in the first place.

Try again Anon with your line rental with NTL, hopefully you will get a different CS person who will be more keen to keep you with NTL icon7.gif
