Does anyone know where to buy Furminators, and which ones are needed?

Hopefully i'm going to be getting a long haired kitten in two months :grinheart

I had a look at the american furminator website and the videos really impressed me, my partner has occasional reactions to cats so i think this would be good to reduce the dander.

Norwegian forest cats have a thick undercoat I know so is there a certain brush I'll need?

Also where other than ebay can I get them?

Sorry, never heard of a furminator.
After watching the video I can only say if you tried to groom a cat with the same amouth of pressure that was used on that dog you'd end up in shreds!!!

Qvc have just started selling furminators. They have videos of the shows where they demondstrate them too. With QVC you can also send it back within 30 days for full refund if it doesnt work out.

I have 2 Maine Coons with similar fur to NFCs. I find a fine toothed comb is all I need to use, you just have to make sure it goes down into the deepest layer of fur where the knots can form.
A quick comb daily is fine, with a more concentrated effort once a week (every other day when moulting). Get your kitten used to being groomed from an early age and you are less likely to end up shredded! Armpit and tummy hair is especially prone to knotting, but they can form anywhere if you are not grooming often enough.

Just in case anyone else is thinking about getting one of these Furminators.......they're great.

I bought a large version for Harley (my lab). He's shedding a great deal and also seems to have been itching a fair bit lately, certainly more than usual. Someone I met in the vet's office said her dog was the same and she upped the amount of time she spent brushing him (with a normal brush) and also used one of these Furminators now and again and her dog is pretty much itch free now, she thought all that loose hair on his undercoat was irritating him.

There's nothing wrong with Harley's skin or anything untoward that's causing him to itch (apart from maybe the Hill's ZD Ultra but that's debateable and for another thread anyway, lol) so I bought a Furminator from QVC (after balking at the price :eek: ) and gave it a go. (They were on eBay too but there's loads of fakes there too seemingly and I was scared of ending up with something that wasn't genuine and maybe didn't work as well).

I already had a wire stripper type brush but the Furminator was much better to handle for me and Harley seemed to like it being used on him, which was important for me - I wasn't keen on using something that made him anxious or sore in any way.

The amount of hair that was on the floor after I'd done was incredible. So far , he seems less itchy too, whether that is a coincidence or not, I have no idea.

Anyway, if anyone is considering one of these things, I would recommend it.

The teeth are quite small and it reminds me of the old fashioned metal comb my brother used to use 20 years ago.

I've got a furminator for my collie x flat coat and it's great. I bought mine from http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/furminator.php, the one on QVC is the blue one, which is the smallest model, ok for cats, but too small for med/large dogs.

are they any bette than a wire undercoat rake? I am fetching handfulls of fur off my dog at the moment, and wonder if the furminator would be considerably better?
