I haven't seen this before, but I'll be wary about it in the future.
I've just been back from two weeks in Europe and used my Visa card in the Canary Islands, Belgium & the Netherlands and they all charged me in Euros.
I've just checked my statement and the exchange rates I got were in the region of 1.41 which is pretty good considering the cash rate when we left was 1.4011 at M&S.Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!0 -
I have always used my credit card when on holiday and seem to have got an exchange rate that is comparable to the tourist rate of the day. Sometimes it has even been better and therefore I have saved money (and no I have not yet got a Nationwide credit card).
I suppose we have the choice of not using the credit card - but that is only useful if you have a never ending supply of cash in your pocket. I don't think credit card complanies listen at the best of times so you have to ask 'who can you complain to?'. I think in a competitive market they will simply say get a different card if you are not happy with ours.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
