Argus / Car Trawler - Report Bad Experiences Here!!!!!

This year I paid them £95 months in advance of my holiday to reserve a car for 3 weeks on Menorca. When I got to Mahon airport the local company had no record of the booking and no cars left. I had to use Hertz and pay about £1000 more than I expected. Back in Britain they have answered complaint emails very slowly, claiming to be investigating but after 5 months I reported them to my card company and got the deposit refunded. Never again!0

At Malaga we were told that we did not have comprehensive insurance. I tried to explain that we did, I had even paid extra to delete the excess!! They told me that this was not the case. If I wanted to include insurance for the vehicle I was hiring I would have to pay an extra 30Euros.
We didn't really have an option. We don't speak Spanish and he insisted that if the vehicle was damaged or stolen then we would be responsible for all costs.
When I returned home I checked the website and was confident that I had paid to include comprehensive insurance. I spoke to cartrawler, who said I had to put my complaint in writing, which I did.
I was then told, tough we paid for the extras and this was our choice.
I am concerned that as a broker they simply don't care that someone had sold an additional ins (we never found out exactly what the extra cover was!), under false pretences. - ie fraud!!
I would never use them again. I do intend taking the matter further. I know 30Euros is small fry, but to me it isn't, but more so I cannot stand the dishonestly and then the shrugging it off attitudes!!ACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0 -
You understood what you had purchased. It was written in your original contract - in English. Why on earth did you believe what some Spanish-speaking commission-paid con merchant told you in Malaga?0

I have had a similarly horrendous experience with Car Trawler/Argus in Cyprus. When I made a purchase for a Group D car back in April, the total cost was EUR 660.96, yet in the end I had to pay EUR 1725.19.
I wrote to the central AVIS complaints department concerning the enormous charges made on my credit card but to no avail.
I am now writing to Car Trawler/Argus and await there reply. However, they make things difficult on their website by not submitting an official email address. Does anyone know of an email address where my complaint can hit the target?0 -
We had a very bad experience when travelling from Australia to the UK November 2010.
We had ordered a 4 wheel drive as we knew the weather would be difficult at that time of year and were told that we would have a Lexus 450 or VW Toureg for the 4 week duration.
As the wedding was in the Lake District countryside the 4WD was ideal for taking items to the reception.
We arrived Manchester airport and proceeded to Green Car hire which was situated in the foyer of a hotel.
When we got there we were approximately 10 minutes late and were told that our VW Toureg had been rented to someone else.
I challenged this and asked to talk to the manager who said that the vehicle was still there and after an under table kicking session his assistant said it was not there.
We were then offered a Citreon C5 a much lesser vehicle than had been ordered of which we declined and proceeded to another car rental company.
We have since tried to recover our deposit and been told that due to our late arrival we were in breach of their terms and conditions we are talking about ten minutes.
They said that we shoud have contacted them and told them we were going to be late(From a plane!!!!!)
Please be wary of Argus car hire/Cartrawler everyone they are cheating on the size of vehicles and customer support to the hirers.0 -
I arranged Car-Hire through them for Tenerife. Terrible experience but they played fair and refunded me in full.0

Just back from Majorca, only 125 euros to pay and landed up paying 259 euros. Currently dealing with cartrawler. Never again will I hire a car abroad.0

I had the same problem in Majorca. Should have been charged 206 EURo, but ended up with 298 EURO. Also, had to replace car seat 3 times as it was unsafe and dangerous. Cartrawler have got back to me but did not answer any questions regarding the safety of the seat.
So have re-emailed but would love CEO contact e-mails. Anyone have them?0
