checks what's running in startup (you can use a demo version of tuneup2007 for this)
Run spyware scan as well as a virus scan as they look at different things
ctrl-alt-del at the time when the PC is running slowly and see what process is using the most cpu time0 -
click start, run and tyope in msconfig.exe
That will show you what is running at startup and may be slowing it down. Do you have a lot of icons in the tool tray on the task bar? It also allows you to unselect them so they don't start to see if that is faster. Just be careful you don't stop anything vital.
A slightly more advanced tool is Autoruns which does a a similar thing and can be downloaded here. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
also this is a great site http://www.tweakguides.com/
the windows xp tweakguide on this site is great0 -
Something you can do every couple of months is empty the Windows\Prefetch folder.
Every time you open a program it will add an entry in here which means it will open it a little bit quicker the next time, which it does but this information takes time to load....
You can remove everything from the folder.comping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:0
