in Techie Stuff
Hi all I'm desperately in need of some techie advice, hope someone may be able to help.
For approx 1-2 weeks now I lose my internet connection at 15.30 daily and cannot work out how and why. I have a PC and a laptop and use a wireless router. At 15.30ish on either system any open website closes down and the 'cannot connect to the internet' page replaces it. I am pretty much untechnical but it appears there is still an internet connection but something stops us getting onto it.
I am with virgin broadband and last week called their expensive helpline. The guy there said there was definitely a good connection so suggested that I disconnect the router, the cable connection and close down entirely then start up and slowly add each component back - this did result in internet access but cannot do that every day and clearly was not a permanent fix as same problem ongoing.
Could we be bugged? Hoping someone can help, thanks.

"bugged"?
Does it only happen on weekdays? They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Told you I'm not very technical, one of those virus thingys!!weegie.geek wrote: »"bugged"?

As for weekend not sure as cannot get online as child needs attention most of the time!!!0 -
Ok. It's just that 15:30 seems very close to "all the kids getting home from school and overloading Virgin's teetering-on-the-edge system"-o'clock.
Alternatively, if you're using wireless on both machines, one of your neighbours could be coming home and turning on their wireless network which is using the same channel as yours, and it's interfering with yours.
I'd plug one of the machines into the router via ethernet and see if it still happens. That'll rule out wireless interference. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
All my connections are via ethernet and I have finally managed to try to log on on the weekend and no joy - had to switch everything off and disconnect then switch on and reconnect - does anyone know what could be going on?0

Have you tried being on a phone call at this time?
We had a garage up the road, that shut something heavy duty off at 6:30 every weekday and caused my Internet to drop out. I happened to be on the phone one day at this time, and heard a series of loud pops and clunks on the line.
We never did find the actual cause, as when BT replaced the cable, the problems stopped. Although you could still hear the clunking, it was very quiet, then it stopped altogether when the garage shut.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
you havent got a virus scanner or defragmenter set to run at that exact time have you? Maybe another running program is slowing it so it times out.0

it affects both the pc and the laptop at the same time and it has only started recently. we've been running fine with the wi-fi since oct/nov.you havent got a virus scanner or defragmenter set to run at that exact time have you? Maybe another running program is slowing it so it times out.0
