Damn! I've just switched from Swalec/British Gas to Npower. I used the comparison sites and got slightly confused, but it seemed that Npower were offering the best price - getting just a little bit worried now!

Appreciate that's your experience, but I found Scottishpower rude and unwilling to deviate from their script....which is why they've lost my business.

Bunk's - I promise I won't nitpick, but what was your experience? My last experience was that the advisor (internet one again, was yours internet account?) talked me through why when I move house into a new build, it is best to leave the supplier (no choice because chosen by the builder) for a while.. and then I want to change to Scottish Power.

I've had a variery of suppliers in my new build. Started off with Norweb & BG, the default suppliers. Soon as I managed to get hold of the meter numbers (easier said than done when you've had no bill and the property isn't on anyone's databases), switched Amerada, who were excellent, but as soon as they were acquired by Powergen I cancelled the service because their rates were a joke.

Since then I've been on Scottishpower, on their online service. Initially just had electricity, then latterly gas. The gas took ages to transfer because they b*llsed up and tried to take over the electricity, which is difficult when they already provided that service - hence they cancelled the transfer but didn't bother telling me that.

Spoke to their internet advisors a few weeks ago when they did the annual review. Without going into details again I recognised I was underpaying, but they wanted to double my payment. By taking my usage records and applying it to ScotPower's current rates, I was able to demonstrate that if I paid their proposed direct debit I'd be in credit by approx £500 by this time next year. I made them an offer for a revised DD, the customer service assistant said it wasn't possible to vary the amount. I made it clear that they either looked at my figures/proposal or I'd cancel. I cancelled.

Speaking to people on this board later the same day, I found two other customers in the same position, both of whom had found Scot Power had backed down when presented with the figures : they wouldn't even let me show them my figures (obviously I was wrong, their system was right). Perhaps I had a CSA having a bad day, but in these circumstances there's no way ScotPower will retain my business and I'd pay more to a 3rd party that just might treat me as a customer ....though I appreciate from what I read here I may not find that with NPower!
