What Photo & Video S/W on Vista?

Have shiny new PC which runs Vista Home Premium. Plan was to load my Photoshop Elements 3 and Premire V1 but have found out that they won't run on Vista.
I have lots of photo's and do mess with them a little before printing (mainly resizing and cropping) but sometimes do things a little more complicated. The catalogue tools on Elements I find very useful.

I probably have not used Element's to its full extent but I have found it simple enough to use. I have used Premier a little to simply edit and produce DVD copies of videos.

Are there any other products I should use - replacing both will cost £100 which I like to avoid. However I'm not convinced that the free stuff will give me the functionality I have used in the past. The photo software with Vista is ok but doesn't seem to be a well thought out - it automatically saves changes and replaces the original which I find daft.

Any comments more than welcome.

Cheers

Well why not try Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Photo Editor that are built into Vista Home Premium.

The editor is basic but OK but I think Photo Gallery is really good for organising and importing photos. I particularly like the tagging function.

Which version of Elements do you have as there is a patch availabel to get it working with Vista?

I have version 3. I think the patch is only available for V5.

As said before, look at the built in stuff in Vista

Movie Maker is actually pretty capable for normal home movie stuff, the photo gallery software is also pretty capable. The only thing that I am not sure on is the editing capability but as you already have this why not give it a try.

My top three image editors recommendations - all free: Google Picasa, Paint.Net, The GIMP.

The new version of Photoshop Elements is excellent for home users, and it's well worth the upgrade, IMO. Amazon may have good prices.

I don't have a view on the video side as I use our Macs for that with iMovie, iDVD and Premier.

Is there one you would recommend most and can they be used with vista. I manily want to crop and change a few setting but also be able to remove thingsd from the photos like the date stamp etc.

Picasa is designed to organise your photos and has some basic editing functions. It is good but I'm not sure it's really any better than Windows Photo Gallery. Paint.NET is an image editing program as is The Gimp (although I prefer Gimpshop which is The Gimp skinned ot look like Photoshop). The Gimp is more advance and hence more complex than Paint.NET. All of them run on Vista.
