Hi,
I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks by Eurostar with DH and 8 year old DS, any tips for keeping the budget under control? Hotel and train already booked, hoping that's nnot going to be the least of the costs...
Many thanks (merci beaucoup?!)

The Eiffel tower is an obvious place to visit. Aim to spend most of a day there, and bring some food (there are eating places inside, but they are pricey, as are the cafes near the base). There is an ice-skating rink inside, which is free (or rather included in the admission price) and they even give you your skates. So allow plenty of time to make the most of it.
The admission charge is higher if you go up by lift than if you walk up the stairs, but some of the entrances are only for lift tickets. And in any case, if you want to go to the top level (there are three floors) then you have to buy a lift ticket.
Get there very early in the morning, since for most of the day the queues are intolerable.0 -
A walk in the Jardin des Tuileries is well worth it and right next door to the Louvre. Hire a mini sail boat on the little lake and see how well you do, go on the carousel - you'll find them in all Paris parks more or less, and ther's a good play area (my 8 year old loves it) and just a good old fashioned walk through the gardens which brings you to Place de la Concorde.
Notre Dame is free to visit check out the little island behind it via the bridge (Isle St Louis) loads of boutiquey fun shops and the best ice cream place in the whole of Paris with loads of great flavours to try -mmmmmm - called Berthillon or the little cafes have stands selling the same stuff! I know it's cold but you must......
A trip on the Batobus....?
There's something called a Playmobil fun park if your son is into that where you pay a small amount and can stay for ages. This is outside Paris but worth the trip if you like that kind of thing!

For food on the go have a crepe!
Anything in particular that you are looking for - just ask...!0 -
THis is from an old post on here, but have lost the thread reference.
(I would also advise taking plenty of bottled water around with you, as you will otherwise spend a fortune byuing drinks in cafes.)
Buy a MOBILIS card for unlimited public transport in central Paris for €5.50 per day.
DO NOT buy a PARIS VISITE card unless you want to pay for first class on the metro.
Alternatively buy a CARTE ORANGE if staying longer, €16.60 for a week's unlimited public transport in central Paris (photo required).

If your visit coincides with the first Sunday in April, you will get free entrance into all the Museums and galleries - tip here is to go early as everyone tries to get the free entry so there will be long queues if you go later. How about a free tour of Paris:-

and do you like fashion? there's a free fashion show in Galeries Lafayette on Fridays at 3pm which is quite fun and you can always wander off if you daughter gets bored, but will introduce her to Paris fashion!

Be warned - watch out for gypsy kids on the Metro. They will target tourists getting on at the stations. They are expert pickpockets!!0

This is in the North of Paris & is a bit out of the way, but its a really good day out (especially if its raining).
Travelling by metro is really easy & inexpensive.
Enjoy your stay0
