It seems Paypal are opting for eCheques more at the moment, as they do not have to pay Credit Card processing fee's on Bank funded payments although they still charge the seller their percentages.

    According to Paypal,
help_a.gif When you use eCheque, you don't have to have a credit card or alternative funding source attached to your PayPal account. In addition, using eCheque means you won't incur credit card debt, since the money comes directly out of your bank account. eCheque is like writing a cheque, only faster and more secure.

Answer : help_a.gif Select eCheque as your payment method when you send money.

To pay by eCheque follow these steps:

    info_sm.gif Here's how: pixel.gif
    1. Click the Send Money tab.
    2. Enter the required information.
    3. Click Continue
    4. Click the More Funding Options link.
    5. Select the eCheque radio button
    6. Click Continue
    7. Review the information and click Send Money to complete the transaction

But I know I have sent instant payments while not having a Credit card linked, I think in the "more payment options" make sure the "e-cheque radio button" is not selected when making the payment.

  • Someone has bought an item from me using e-cheque and i says it will take 7 - 9 days to clear.

The buyer emailed me today asking me if i had sent the item yet but i had to explain that i couldn't until the e-cheque had cleared.

A bit time consuming for the seller too me thinks

Paypal are quite clever with e-cheques. They want people to use them so they dont pay credit card fees. Sometimes they will process them immediately as an instant payment if you are a regular user as they are confident of getting the money from your account but most times it takes 10 days o so to clear.

Often a buyer is not aware they have paid using an echeque (because Paypal are so sly) and start chasing their goods when in fact the seller cannot (and should not) ship until the echeque has cleared. As a seller I block echeques via Paypal because of the time they take to clear and their unreliability (there is a setting in preferences). The buyers then contact me and I advise that they need to use a card to fund Paypal or send me a cheque (even a cheque by post is quicker than an echeque).
