Which Halifax card can I upgrade to from Halifax P

I have Halifax Platinum Card which its 0% period (9 months) will expired in few days.
I Called Halifax and asked them if they will extend the period , but told no (well I didn't think they will do but I thought it worth the try).
About 9 months ago I transfer a nice amount to a saving account (well why not, 10K+ in ~5.5% - interest paid net) so I can pay the remaining balance without problem.
When I spoke with Halifax I've been told that I can go to any branch and check which card I can upgrade to from my existing one, sounds a bit silly as why they cannot tell me in the phone.

So if anyone know - but please if you don't have an answer please do not tell me try this card or this one - I'm looking for someone already upgraded from the Platinum to any other Halifax card.

I'm not looking for card from other company cannot bother with all the process of checking, bla, bla, bla.

Thanks

Just a note of caution. I upgraded from a Halifax 'Classic' to a 'One' in July, following the advice on this site.

Complicated logic, really, but you get charged interest even if clearing the blance in time unless you wait until a statment is produced after you have paid the balance before you request upgrade. This is because the interest rate on the statement balance reverts to standard - in effect you lose the 0% days following the last statement on the old account.

So to avoid this 1) clear the balance 2) get a statement showing balance is cleared 3) ask for upgrade.

I have been switching HFAX cards for 4 years, and have so far never failed. HFAX platinum will convert ok to HFAX one - you get 9 months interest free on this card to. Once this expires - go back to HFAX platinum. The other option is to convert your existing card to Visa or Mastercard (the opposite to what you currently have!)

Remember to ask or a limit increase first ;)

Pricy147, so you`ve done this HFX One to HFX Plat, why is there an intro offer on the plat or mastercard option, will they do this.

Yep - HFAX Platinum is zero percent on both Visa and Mastercard. Swap between the two and carry across your credit limit, or simply convert to HFAX One, and once this expires convert back to HFAX Platinum as I dont think HFAX One does both a Visa and Mastercard.

Cheer`s for info , i have aHFX one ending soon so pay it off & wait for statement do they just switch you or is it a new application eg. credit search applies, also would they switch to NSPCC card =0% 9mths
Oh yeah, had it 6 mth may try credit limit increase
  • Pricy147 how on earth did you manage to do this. I'm coming to the end of my HFX One 0% and asked what I could upgrade to (I had a Gold which I upgraded to the One to start with) but they said that nobody can upgrade from the One card to any other card without reapplying.

And besides there is no Platinum card that offers 0%, only the low rate for life (6.9% - pah!) one.

    Confused!

There are a number of tricks to doing it.

    1) If they do Visa and Master - Ask to convert your card from Visa to Master or vice versa. Dont think the One card does both.
    2) If they say no - ask to open a second card, and split your credit limit. Again - cant be done to One card.
    3) If they say no - upgrade to another card like Platinum, etc. This can be done on One card.
    4) If they say no, apply for a second card seperately like a Platinum card.
    5) If you get accepted - great - then close the one card and move the CC limit across.
    6) If you get turned down - put on a sob story saying how impressed you were with their offer, and ask them if you close your existing card, will they open it up with your original credit limit.

Normally one of these works. The other option is to just ask for an extended introductory offer which they sometimes agree to!

    Good luck

If you ask to close the card do they refer you to CS dept, or OK! and close it

    Am in similar position.

My halifax plat card 0% runs out on 4th Nov.
I did a BT to Morg stan 0% 9 months for the remaining £1200 that I have to pay.

But my wife has a card to ( halifax very generously offered a higher limit to split if we took 2nd card).

Does having a 2nd card make any difference in negotiating a new deal with them ?

Has anyone done this yet ?

Also given that i've applied for the cap1 18 month card and the barc 0% for a year deal and have just done a BT with morg stan am I over doing it ?

    Advice welcome please.
Back to square one, no apg, no comment.
  • Hi all.

Called up Halifax to close my 9 month platinum deal after the 0% ran out as I wanted to get it off my credit record before applying for another deal somewhere else.

They passed me through to their customer satisfaction (!) department and offered to upgrade me to their One deal (0% on purchases and transfers for 9 months and 0.25% cashback) on the spot, which I took up, after checking that my credit limit was at it's maximum ;D

The good thing was that Halifax didn't need to run another credit check and could sort it out immediately.

It's always worth the threat of leaving and giving them the opportunity to keep you!!

    Good luck...
