Backward reasoning?! Interesting thought, but incorrect. We are getting off-topic now.

Firstly the price myth (the times I see this wheeled out) is totally incorrect. Compare Mac prices with like for like PCs and you'll find very little difference in price, providing you are comparing a decent brand, rather than a box-shifter. Some you pay a premium for, but then you pay a premium for a BMW or Merc, over a Ford - all 3 do the same job.

MacBooks are pretty comparable with Sony Laptops, price wise and contain unique features PC clones don't.

I can't think of a single decent PC all-in-one that can compete with the iMac either.

The Mac Pro fully loaded, although hideously expensive, is a true workstation, and I can't think of many, if any PCs that could match it for power. There are a couple of very well respected journalists which cite this in publications such as PC Pro (yes a PC magazine).

Equally if you are talking about cost, you need to evaluate the TCO. I've Macs which are brand new to 10 year old ones, all running the latest OS. I can't think of any PC 10 years old that can run XP well, let alone Vista.

I'm not biased, I own and use both, personally and professionally and have done almost since they were both available to the market. But I cannot stand the constant prorogation of mis-information about the platform. (It's the same as people Vista bashing who haven't even used Vista.)

Now you can run Windows, OS X and Linux, X11 etc on one box, it makes it incredible versatile.

I agree re. people with qualifications, I've met many a dimwitted IT fool in my time. But equally I know very bright ones, and just happen to know the ones I've stated are incredibly intelligent people. ;)

We could get into the Apple history debate, but I see no reason. Woz left for many reasons, and went off the rails, since Jobs returned the company has turned into one of the most profitable and well known brands in the World. Woz is not, and never will be a businessman.

I love how it's impossible to mention certain things without fanboys from all sides starting an argument.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

With Mr isofa very defensive/aggresive in his replies. However he does like to throw his weight around with the knowledge he provides just dont get offended I think thats how he is. I do agree with what he has posted regarding how macs compete excellently with pc's if not better nowadays. I am considering my next purchase to be either a macbook pro or the 'fanboy' air as they as very nice products.

    :)

Well, isofa makes good point. I do know professionals that use Macs, like medical staff, and photo professionals (although I don't know if Photoshop is better on Mac/PC).
I think you are right that Apple is like Sony: it is more expensive, but you pay for quality. But on the other hand, I've got a El Cheapo P166 laptop and several Pentium 1 desktops, all more than 10 years old, and all of them still work great.
Now, it's true that I build all my PCs, and that makes it cheaper. But then again, that's what I meant about hardware tinkering.
Likewise, my main gripe about iTunes is that you can't tinker with it: it's a big bulky package, with no way to make it leaner.

oh stop it the lot of you.

mentioning apple macs should be banned on this forum, it just creates an argument. (For the record i've used macs exclusivly for years and i love them) but there is so much guff spread about apple macs by people that don't use them that it just leads to arguments like this.

All OSs are rubbish. They all have problems, they all have compromises.

The OP was asking about iTunes Alternatives. Please keep this on topic. If you want to start a thread about Apple vs Windows go for it. Just don't expect the discerning amongst us to give a damn. If people spent as much time actually using their OS for something productive as they do arguing about it i shudder to think what we'd all achieve.

Some very good points have been made, although mostly completely off the original posters question. :rotfl:

I don't agree isofa has been aggressive, and I'm not sure where the character assignation came from with Garz? It seems to me the post was pointing out some facts, accurately. He's obviously knows his onions, that might be off-putting to some. Macs are easy to compare with PCs now they run the same processors and are similar in price. Fact.

However I also agree with Cricri's points that iTunes is big and bulky, it seems more so on the PC than OS X though.

Assuming the OP has windows, MediaMonkey is excellent, as mentioned by wolfman.

I use MM and really like it. But it crashes my computer with Vista a few times which is a bit annoying, but overall I really like it as its built on winamp and you can use all its plugins.
