lol, I did this too! I just went to control panel and selected the icon in the display section to get it back. However, now when I put something in the bin, it doesn't 'fill' the bin up, it always looks empty now! x

boot from the cd and choose 'repair' option - it might drop the 'full' icon back in place

    No no no!

Why do people suggest things like this, or doing a complete restore to fix the most simple problems?

The following is from Windows Help:
You can add or remove common desktop icons, including shortcuts to the Computer folder, your personal folder, the Network folder, the Recycle Bin, and Control Panel, by following these steps.
    Click to open Personalization.
In the left pane, click Change desktop icons.
Under Desktop icons, select the check box for each icon that you want to add to the desktop, or clear the check box for each icon that you want to remove from the desktop, and then click OK.

right click on screen go to Personalize and click then it opens a new box Control Panel\Personalization
in that box click change desktop icons on the top left hand side
a new box opens desktop icon setting ,put a tick in the recycle bin and it will be back now
    good luck
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

Found this to be THEEEE most annoying and useless feature in Vista. I mean what were they thinking for god's sake?

There is however a registry tweak to completely disable it...
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
