when i start to type a email address it starts to self complete
as in i type "a" and it might fill out [EMAIL="andrew@email.com"]andrew@email.com[/EMAIL] and so on
how can i stop it doing that

You should have 'options' in your email, then go to 'General Preferences', if you look in 'message actions', you will find a header 'Auto Complete' check 'Do not use Address AutoComplete'.
