Canaries esp. Tenerife in April?

hi folks,

my girlfriend and i are planning on finding a late deal to the canaries for 1 week in april some time. tenerife the current favourite (poss. south side) but still open minded about final destination.

we're after a lazy beach holiday and i was wondering if anybody has any experience of tenerife (+ general canaries) at this time of year e.g. what was the weather like for sunbathing, where was your hotel and what were its good/bad points. i'd be especially interested if you've got any experience of 3 and 4 star self-catering or all inclusive deals e.g. how amenable were the facilities for s/c in and around the hotel or whether or not you felt the all inclusive deals were value for money.

any and all advice would be gratefully received.

many thanks,
andy :)

We went there last Easter. Weather was actually actively hot in the day on the beach, as in burn your feet on the sand, lie their all day without a hint of a chill.

Sunrise and sunset are very late due to the timezone, so it's quite cool in the mornings. The Playa De Las Americas is ultra-chavvy.

Next-door Costa Adeje is much more upmarket.

If you want a s/c type thing, renting a car and villa somewhere would be fine.

I would stick to the South side for better weather.

The beaches are far from world class.

If you want a quieter type of S/C I guess look around Los Gigantes.

Otherwise something in Adeje is more covenient.

For hotel I would recommend the Sheraton La Caleta

Around the Plaza Del Duque you will find a lot of hotels, and restaurants, this is a good location to stay. Of course the best option in this area, located perfectly on the seafront is the Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque. Might just be a tad pricey though.

Personally I would look for something as close to the beach as possible in Adeje. We stayed in a cruddy 3* (Fanabe Costa Sur) that was a fair walk away, would not recommend it at all. There's a lot of really low grade package hotels around, and it's worth sticking with something with a bit more class.
